General The LL422 is a selectable RS232, RS485 & RS422 to Fibre Optic Transceiver.
The unit is packaged in a small plastic enclosure and requires a 9-12V external DC power supply, such as the LL231
Basic System Description In RS485 mode (2-Wire) the unit will operate in Half Duplex Mode (data in only one direction at a time).
In RS232 mode (3-Wire) the unit will operate in Full Duplex Mode (data in both directions at the same time).
In RS422 mode (4-Wire) the unit will operate in Full Duplex Mode .
The unit can be configured to work in a Party Line configuration, by selecting the PARTY dipswitch. This means that whatever data is received on the Fibre Optic RX, will be sent out on copper, and will also be re-sent out to the Fibre Optic TX. This is useful for a multi-drop ring application.
The unit can also be configured to work as a Master Unit, by selecting the MASTER dipswitch. This means that whatever data is received on the copper RX, will be sent out to the Fibre Optic TX, and will also be blocked from being received on the Fibre Optic RX and then re-sent out on the copper TX. This is also useful for a multi-drop application where the data sent out to the Slave Units must not appear back at the Master Controller.
The fibre interface for this unit remains compatible regardless of the selection for RS232, RS422 or RS485. The units can thus each be configured for different communication formats, with the fibre interfacing between them. This feature makes a very versatile system allowing the Master Controller to communicate at RS232 level, and the Slave Peripheral Equipment to communicate at RS485 or RS422 level.
