General The OS8071 is a single channel audio preamp to fibre unit with automatic gain control (AGC). Basic System Description This is a stand-alone unit that is usually connected to an audio signal from a variable source (such as a microphone with preamp), in order to maintain the audio at a constant level, before it is converted to an optical signal and sent across fibre to a fibre receiver, such as the OS807.
The unit amplifies the incoming audio signal by ~ 4 times, and then applies AGC in order to limit the audio level to a maximum of ~ 2Vp-p (0dBm or Line Level). This prevents any dramatic changes in the audio level, and prevents audible distortion when the input signal is too big (above 2Vp-p). The AGC working range on the input audio signal is from ?13dBm to +13dBm (that is 0.5Vp-p up to 10Vp-p). This audio signal is then used to Frequency Modulate a 200kHz carrier signal, which is then converted to an optical signal and sent across an optical fibre to a receiver, such as an OS807.
The unit is available as a miniature 12Vdc unit (either regulated, or unregulated, as ordered). It is also available as stand-alone unit in a small metal enclosure which can be powered from an AC source. This must, however, be specified when the unit is ordered. The unit can also be ordered as a microphone preamp with AGC, for use with condenser microphones, or electret microphones that require Phantom Power. All relevant information must be furnished when the unit is ordered. Features - Fully compatible with the OS807 audio series of equipment
- Compact design allows installation in small enclosures.
- 26dB AGC range (0.5Vp-p to 10Vp-p input signal)
- Can be ordered as Microphone Preamp as well
Uses - Prevent overloading of inputs in audio systems.
- Maintain constant audio levels from different audio sources.
Indications Power - Indicates when the unit is powered.
